The book of Psalms has been a source of comfort and encouragement throughout the joys and challenges of my life. I have been privileged to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior all of my life, and I strive to honor, serve, and praise Him each day in my work and play. Besides working at SCCS, I enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, and walking, and I am active in the ministry of Covenant Christian Reformed Church. I am married to Bob, an English professor at Dordt College. It is a joy to engage my students in their learning and to encourage them to ask questions and find answers. I love working with these students, learning along-side of them about interesting and amazing parts of God's world and His work. The Discovery Program provides challenge and enrichment for high-ability learners. My classroom experience includes preschool-3rd grade, and for the past 29 years, I have been directing and teaching in the Discovery Program at SCCS. Send me!’” I love this verse because you can apply this to not only going out into the world to spread the Word, but you can also apply this to ministering to your own community as well. One verse that I strive to live by is Isaiah 6:8… “Then I heard a voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here I am.

My husband and I have 3 boys that keep us busy! We feel very blessed to be a part of this community and look forward to many years here. I love spending time with my family, doing outdoor activities, and reading. During my last year of teaching there I met my husband, Josh, and moved down to Kansas City, MO where I taught at a few different public schools. When I graduated from college I taught at Elim Christian School for 3 years. I have always had a passion for teaching children and I feel very blessed that I get to do that every day. I then went on to attend Trinity Christian College where I received degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. I grew up in DeMotte, Indiana and attended DeMotte Christian School and Illiana Christian High School. I take comfort in Romans 8:38-39: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I am grateful that God has given me many opportunities to share my faith and to use my gifts to further His Kingdom. I also served as a worship director at both Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Ames, IA, and at Covenant CRC in Sioux Center. Besides music, I love to read, play board games, and travel. Besides teaching, I am a Resource Specialist for Faith Formation Ministries of the CRCNA.

We have three grown children and two grandchildren, who live in Sioux Center, Prince Edward Island and Reno, NV. We moved to Sioux Center in 2010 when my husband took a corn research position at Corteva (formally Pionee HiBred) in Orange City. My husband and I lived in Indiana for four years and then raised our three children in Central Iowa. Peter, MN, graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, and attended Dordt College. Some of our favorite family activities include sit-down meals, telling funny stories, and going on road trips together. Oh, and food almost any kind of food! My wife and I have four children. My thoughts on classroom management are expressed in my book, Beyond Control: Heart-Centered Classroom Climate and Discipline.Īside from teaching and learning, I love thunderstorms, congregational singing, dark coffee with real cream, sumac in the fall, and the call of the red-winged blackbird. Regarding Christian teaching, I believe that our approach to classroom management exerts nearly as much influence in faith formation as the perspectives we share in our subject areas. I work to find those special gifts in young people-and put them to use in our learning community. Equally as much, I love the challenge of helping students to enjoy learning.Įach child was imagined and designed by a loving Creator, and each comes to the classroom with something unique to offer. I’m the odd bird you’ll see absorbed in a book (the kind with paper) at the park or in the shopping mall. Learning is my life it’s like breathing for me.
